Ralfe Band is the brainchild of Oly Ralfe, whose musical journey began in 2005 with debut album Swords, a madcap voyage praised by Mojo and The Independent and earning the band an early cult following. Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, the fourth studio album by Franz Ferdinand, will be released by Domino on 26^th August 2013.

Recorded over the last year at Kapranos’s Scottish studio, McCarthy’s Sausage Studios in London, Club Ralph and a couple of trips to Stockholm and Oslo, the LP cements their status as a unique and adventurous British band: emboldened by a decade’s undreamt-of worldwide success, but still daring and defiant. It’s an ecstatic rejection of the drab conventions often accompanying that level of attention and expectation.

When asked for a quote, Kapranos came back with: “The Intellect Vs The Soul, played out by some dumb band.”

The ten songs that make up Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action take what propelled Franz Ferdinand from the incestuous Glasgow Art School world to, well, the entire world - painterly lyrical detail, heavyweight hooks, precise aesthetic vision and that uncanny ability to marry arch artistic sensibility with pop punch – and push it even further. The breadth of influence, musicality and invention on show here is enormous. If this is unmistakably a Franz Ferdinand record, it is as much by virtue of its sonic daring and perfectly patch-worked eclecticism as the timeless songwriting flair that has long been their calling card.

Having received an incredible collection of entries from aspiring film-makers since its launch before Christmas, Patrick Watson and creative group Genaro have since announced the winner of the 'Blackwind' video-making competition. Chloe Poirier-Sauve from Canada has had her beautifully well-crafted and fantastical video awarded the title of the single’s official video.

“We never thought there would be that many good entries. Crazy. And of course, we couldn't agree on what should win.

“In the end, we decided to go with a video that impressed us with its artistic qualities. It struck us as more than a music video: it stands on its own as a work of art, which just happens to be inspired by our music. This wasn't an easy choice. Some we liked for the story, some for the beautiful images, some surprised us, others simply touched us. And they go in every direction, which amazes me: who would think one song could inspire so many different feelings and ideas?” Patrick Watson

Tim Gane (Stereolab) & Sean O’Hagan (The High Llamas) originally paired up for the record ‘Turn On’ in 1996. A huge fan of both The High Llamas and Stereolab, French director Marc Fitoussi asked the duo to create his film soundtracks. Fitoussi wanted them to deliver something that captured what he loved about both bands to create distinctive scores for his films to rival classic film composers such as Ennio Morricone, François de Roubaix and Piero Picconi.

In his own right, Sean O’Hagan is an arranger having worked with artists such as Paul Weller, The Coral, Stereolab, Super Furry Animals , Doves, Cornelius, St Etienne, Vanessa D'Mata, Sondre Lechre and Tim Burgess. Sean also developed sound-scapes for contemporary art installations Musical Painting (2003), Musical Wheel (2007) as well as occasionally acting as musical director for institutes such as the Barbican (Tropicalia season )and the Southbank (Meltdown Lost ladies of Folk 2009).

Mike Lindsay founded the band “Tunng” in 2004. He co-wrote and produced all four of the group’s albums, and has been considered a pioneer of the “folktronica” scene. His work with Tunng has seen him touring the World, playing with an eclectic range of musical talent from Tuareg band and Tinariwen to Canadian hip hop artist Buck 65. Film4 used Tunng song ‘Woodcat’ for 6 months on their seasonal advertising. He has produced a number of albums for other contemporary folk and experimental artists in the meantime, among them Serafina Steer, Hannah Peel, Bethjeans Houghton, and Cibelle.

His production work has also seen him co-writing and producing two tracks on the Mercury Music Prize winning Speech Therapy by Speech Debelle.

Mike has worked on bespoke music composition for Film and TV since 2002, being involved in large re-branding campaigns for ITV in 2003 and again in 2004, as well as sound-tracking many high end commercials (O2, T-mobile, Littlewoods, Samsung and Honda) all of which carried his characteristic music identity.

Mike is currently writing and producing a solo record in Iceland based on his experiences living in the far north of the country, in collaboration with an eclectic group of local musicians.

David Lowe is an established composer and producer working primarily in television, radio, branding, idents and commercials. David's music includes the current themes for BBC News, as well as The One Show, Panorama, Ray Mears, Grand Designs and the identity for BBC World Service. He has also created branding identities for Al Arabiya and Abu Dhabi TV in the Middle East, NDTV India and TV2 Norway.

He is well known for his 1998 Touch and Go hits including ‘Would You...?’. The follow up single ‘Straight...to Number One’ was chosen by Apple to launch the iTunes site in the USA, and other commercials include Walls Solero, Nokia, San Pellegrino and Calsberg to name a few. Together, Steve Moore and A.E. Paterra are best known as Zombi on Relapse Records (Domino Publishing). They have for some time developed a synthesized sensory exploration that intensifies the senses with Moore on guitar and bass and Paterra drums. Theirs is an altogether more science fiction vibe and one that sits well amongst soundtrack artists like Wendy Carlos, Rachel Elkind, Gil Melle and John Carpenter. Some parts of their latest album 'Spirit Animal' would not be out of place in an early 90s action movie (Earthly Powers) whereas with other elements more ethereal and thoughtful (Spirit Animal) - may be the conclusion of a conflict.

Bill Ryder-Jones began his musical career as the lead guitarist of The Coral, a six piece band whose psychedelic strain of guitar music exploded onto the Liverpool music scene in 2002. Highly wary of the singer-songwriter tag, Bill is now mainly focusing on a solo album and would rather be known for instrumental pieces perhaps born out of is affection for the film soundtrack works of Ennio Morricone, Jonny Greenwood, Yann Tiersen and Michael Galasso. Keen to score films himself, Bill is in the middle of exploring new liaisons with well known soundtrack writers including working on the features soundtrack to Kieron Hawkes' London based thriller, Piggy.

Bill released an album 'If' in 2011 recorded with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra inspired by 'If On A Winter’s Night A Traveller' by Italo Calvino .

Multi-instrumentalist Matthew Eaton, is best known to Domino as one of the founding members of Pram but also as an accomplished sound designer with professional experience in theatre and film. Over the past three years, Matt has worked on countless scores for projects including Hamlet (Creation Theatre Co), It Ain't All Bollywood (Rifco Arts) and most recently worked on a production The Gambler for BBC Radio 3. Versitile and swift, Matt enabled by his own studio facilities has created sounds from exotic asian to mysterious and eerie to sugar plum nursery style. Only Matt knows how to make running a screwdriver along an electric guitar sound like the perfect match for an underwater dream.

Pram themselves are no strangers to film and TV usage. 'Track of the Cat' was used on a BT advert and have had uses in other commercials including Volkswagen 30 Years in the Making. Last summer, Birmingham (UK) had the pleasure of premiering a new collaboration between Filmficciones and Domino artist Pram at Supersonic Festival. The half hour show screened black and white horror film footage accompanied by a live original soundtrack by Pram. Commissioned by Capsule (the curators of Supersonic festival), the show hopes to venture nationwide and beyond. Here you can watch the trailer for this production.

Jon Hopkins came to the attention of many when his track 'Light Through the Veins' formed the basis of 'Life in Technicolour' by Coldplay in 2008. Over the past few years, Jon has had the opportunity to work on and off stage with all sorts of high profile musicians including Brian Eno with whom he co-wrote and co-performed Brian Eno's new album Small Craft on a Milk Sea, released on Warp Records in late 2010.

On stage, his own performances are often coupled with extraordinary VJ sets reveal the talent of being able to lure an audience from listening to accessible, classical piano melodies through to the outer limits of experimental, industrial electronic beats. This versitility has enabled Jon to work on sound design for countless advertising campaigns such as RKCR/Y&Rs 'Breathe' fire safety campaign directed by Dougal Wilson (Blink), Honda CR-Z directed by Frank Budgen. His reliable work ethic has made him a popular music provider in this field. Jon has recently completed soundtrack scores for two feature films (to be announced).

STEVEN SEVERIN - ATMOSPHERIC | THRILLER

Steven Severin formed Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1976 with Siouxsie Sioux. Over the next two decades, Steven featured on all 16 albums and 30 singles as co-lyricist and songwriter. Since then Steven Severin has been busy working on various solo projects including composing for soundtracks. You can have a look at some of this output on his YouTube Channel here which features the above footage from the film London Voodoo.

Also under 'favorites' on Steven's YouTube Channel are some rough clips taken during his 2009 US shows where he performed new scores to the screening of a 1928 surrealist classic 'The Seashell and the Clergyman' plus a programme of scores to short films by emerging avant-garde film makers. In NYC - Steven premiered his scoring of Jean Cocteau's 1930s silent classic 'Blood of a Poet'. Slowdivemusic blog described it as 'an elaboration of the moods and emotions on the screen' and said of Severin that 'he can even influence future generations into a new mindset about how to approach music'.

Last year, Steven worked on the soundtrack to the short film 'Delphinium - a childhood portrait of Derek Jarman' - a stylized and lyrical coming-of-age portrait of legendary painter, filmmaker, and activist Derek Jarman. Written and directed by Matthew Mishory it was shot on super8 and HD by cinematographer Lili Wilde. The film which resulted in a tour of the US by Severin played out at various festivals in the USA and ended up being projected onto an ice sculpture at Sundance.

Severin recently completed another score for 'A Long Weekend with the Son of God' by TV director George Carey which is due to air on UK TV soon.

A double album based on John Milton's 'Paradise Lost' - to show both the light and the dark of the album in its initial introduction, so we are offering two tracks for preview via Soundcloud: 1)'Is The Sky the Limit?' is a melancholy song of the aftermath of rejection built upon the eerie and lonely sound of Sputnik 1; and 2) 'Letting Me Out' follows in all its propulsive Buddy Holly glory as the Artist formerly known as Lucifer offers up his cunning business proposition to populate the netherworld.

Directed and produced by Tim Main. Petite Noir aka Yannick Ilunga is to release Noirse, the first single since the breakthrough Disappear. It's a glistening noir-wave production of tropical marimba and shuffling grooves from his Congolese and Angolan origins. It rises from graceful beginnings to a rousing, insatiable crescendo. The single features sterling remixes from Deptford Goth, NUGUZUNUGUZU and Pional.

Petite Noir will be performing across the summer, kicking off with an enviable support slot for Solange in NY for which he was personally invited. More dates are still to come.

Shot on 16mm film with minimum set-ups, Blair Young's 'Check My Heart' promo is the story of one early spring Saturday in Glasgow. Lives overlap, connect, coincide, the music is a constant; sometimes it's only playing in our heads.

She & Him – Zooey Deschanel and M. The duo will also be hitting the road for a month-long US tour this summer which includes a headlining show at the legendary Hollywood Bowl on June 23^rd, as well as an evening at Central Park Summerstage in July. The incredible Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell and Camera Obscura provide support on select dates.

With fourteen songs – 11 Deschanel originals and 3 covers – Volume 3 is an effortlessly effervescent, bleached-out-in-the-sun pop record. The album features some of the most dynamic, complex songs Deschanel has ever written, allowing for tempo shifts, disco grooves, string arrangements on multiple tracks, and horn flourishes that perfectly suit the She & Him sound. Produced by M. Ward, and recorded in Los Angeles, Portland, and New York City, Volume 3 features guest contributions from NRBQ’s Joey Spampinato, Mike Watt, Tilly and the Wall, Pierre de Reeder from Rilo Kiley, and Tom Hagerman from Devotchka.

Deschanel, whose television show New Girl has cemented her status as a sitcom star, continued to hone her songwriting skills, writing the theme song for her new show, in addition to being nominated for a Grammy for Best Original Song for the movie Winnie the Pooh. She wrote songs for Volume 3 during small pockets of downtime while filming New Girl, as Ward toured the world behind his latest solo creation, A Wasteland Companion.

ROSE IN LONDON - THE LOVESTREET

We have been delighted at the number of new films being made within the fashion industry by creative directors brave enough to use some of the most cutting edge music. Not only is it about people wearing nice clothes but the films are becoming hugely visually pleasing like Metamorphosis by The North Circular.

I've finally got round to grabbing the embed code for this film that I want to share with you. It was a product of the fantastic, new, hugely relevant course being offered by the London College of Fashion - MA Fashion Media Production, which this month enjoyed its first class graduation with all students passing including three with distinction. Whilst it may seem unfair to single out one student from an entire year - recent MA_12 graduate Saskia Reis had her music request from Domino rejected last year but we kept in touch. And we're so happy she's still talking to us as we are now able to look upon her film output like a proud parent. This film, entirely created by her, is one of several in her pioneering street-style blog THE LOVESTREET that proves that fashion - on the street anyways - can still have soul.

AN INTRODUCTION TO ARTHUR RUSSELL

Seminal avant-garde composer, singer-songwriter, cellist, and disco producer Arthur Russell prolifically created music that spanned both pop and the transcendent possibilities of abstract art. Though posthumously regarded as one of the most influential musicians of all time, his profound talent was never truly acknowledged before his untimely death in 1992.

His long time collaborators and friends included Philip Glass, Allen Ginsberg and David Byrne, the latter with whom he produced eccentric disco hits under the moniker Dinosaur L which became pre Studio 54 hits.

Shunning the conventionality of ‘genre’ he became the master of minimalist symphonies (‘First Thought, Best Thought’) and experimental disco/new wave (‘Calling Out Of Context’).

As the long deserved praise continues to grow, 2007 saw the release of ‘Four Songs By Arthur Russell’ an EP of enchanting covers by contemporary artists such As Vera November and Taken By Trees. Whilst the film ‘Wild Combination: A Portrait Of Arthur Russell’ was released in 2008.

‘Love Is Overtaking Me’ (2008) reaches back further to Russell's first compositions from the early `70s and spans forward to his very last recordings. Comprised of demos and home recordings of unreleased pop, folk and country songs, it is the fifth collection put together so lovingly by Audika Records.

The soundtrack to the 2012 film 'Keep The Lights On' is made entirely of Arthur Russell's music.

CLOUD CHAMBER

Game features the songs: 'Wounder' / 'Loner' & 'Spaceape (Feat. Spaceape) by Burial

Cloud Chamber orchestrates 'found footage' across a variety of media. Players navigate, collaborate and interact in order to access found media (films, diaries, documents, etc) – they are detectives discovering what actually happened. The experience can be described as 'a single site Altered Reality Game'. It is fiction for the Facebook generation - part social network, part filmed mystery and part game.

The tone mixes psychological thriller elements with supernatural horror and real space science to draw players into a dark mystery. As players explore the story, the mysteries of the human psyche and the heartless voids and immensities of outer space become one.
