'Doris and the Daggers'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

It’s been eight years since Scott Kannberg, aka Spiral Stairs (founding member of Pavement and Preston School of Industry), released any new music. He knows that. The years just have a habit of slipping away sometimes.

Doris and The Daggers – to be released on through Domino - and shares the first track from it, the album opener ‘Dance (Cry Wolf)’. Its Roxy Music meets Wire slink and stompable groove is a “positive, dance-away-the-pain thing” says Scott whilst the video features Jason Lytle from Grandaddy.

Melody's Echo Chamber 'Cross My Heart'

To celebrate the release of Bon Voyage, MEC aka Melody Prochet is pleased to share the video for ‘Cross My Heart’, the final instalment in a fairytale trilogy directed by Daniel Foothead. Watch above.

Album opener ‘Cross My Heart’ is stylistically the most recognisable track on the new record, at least until an old skool hip hop breakdown midway through seems to bifurcate the old Melody from the new Melody. From then on in it’s an odyssey of aural iridescence where anything can happen and it usually does. Watch the previous videos for ‘Breathe In, Breathe Out’ and ‘Desert Horse’

Bon Voyage is a collaborative record between Prochet and Dungen’s Reine Fiske and The Amazing’s Fredrik Swahn with Melody sculpting and producing the sessions as well as encouraging the players around her to experiment, often with instruments that might be less familiar to them. It also features special guests Gustav Esjtes and Johan Holmegaard (both from Dungen) and Nicholas Allbrook (Pond).

VILLAGERS 'THE ART OF PRETENDING TO SWIM' OUT 21ST SEPTEMBER 2018 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Villagers 'The Art Of Pretending To Swim'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Conor O’Brien announces the release of Villagers’ fourth studio album, The Art Of Pretending To Swim, released by Domino on Friday 21st September. Watch the video for 'A Trick Of Light' above.

Following the exquisitely sparse, intimate aura of 2015’s Darling Arithmetic, O’Brien’s new record reconnects with the multi-faceted approach of Villagers’ 2010 album debut Becoming A Jackal and 2013’s {Awayland} while adding a new-found soulfulness, rhythmic nous and dazzling panoply of sonic detail, both analogue and digital, creating feverish moods while writing effortlessly accessible tunes. Balanced with subtle aspects and lyrical themes that embrace existential fears and hopes in this desperate, technologically-centred dystopian age, The Art Of Pretending To Swim is the most brilliantly realised Villagers album to date. The album was written, produced, mixed and primarily performed by Conor O’Brien in his Dublin studio.

The video for ‘A Trick of the Light’, the first single from the album, was directed by Bob Gallagher. Conor says of the collaboration:

Myself and Bob got together and discussed the song thematically and came to the conclusion that there was no other option but to make a short film in which we follow a dishevelled shamanistic protagonist who mysteriously triggers an altered state of consciousness in everyone he meets, or at least believes that he does. We also wanted lots of dancing and to inspire a general feeling of "what the hell did I just watch?" in the viewer.

O’Brien has a string of accolades under his belt including two Ivor Novello Awards (the most recent being 2016’s Album Award for Darling Arithmetic), two Mercury Music Prize nominations and is also a previous winner of Ireland’s Choice Music Prize. Additionally, Villagers’ music recently featured in the high profile HBO drama ‘Big Little Lies’, Conor has collaborated with the composer Nico Muhly (that track featuring in the forthcoming Paulo Sorrentino Berlusconi biopic ‘Loro 2’) and Villagers’ Spotify session of ‘Nothing Arrived’ has hit over 100 million streams.

ANNA CALVI 'HUNTER' OUT 31ST AUGUST 2018 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Anna Calvi 'Hunter'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Anna Calvi announces her third album, 'Hunter', which will be released on 31st August 2018 via Domino. To mark the announcement she has shared the William Kennedy directed video for single 'Don’t Beat The Girl Out Of My Boy'. Watch above.

Produced by Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Grinderman) at Konk Studios in London with some further production in LA, the album was recorded with Anna's band - Mally Harpaz on various instruments and Alex Thomas on drums - with the addition of Adrian Utley from Portishead on keys and Martyn Casey from The Bad Seeds on bass.

Hunter is the embodiment of the feeling of truly letting go. For the songwriter and virtuosic guitarist, it was a catharsis, an opportunity to be more truthful than ever. The first new music since 2014’s collaborative release with David Byrne, Strange Weather EP, her self-titled debut album and the 2013 follow-up One Breath, Hunter is a visceral album exploring sexuality and breaking the laws of gender conformity. A queer and a feminist record, it is galvanising in its hunt for freedom. It was important to Calvi that it was as vulnerable as it is strong; as beautiful as it is harsh; as much about the hunted as it is about the hunter.

The first single, "Don’t Beat The Girl Out Of My Boy”. A battle cry with a rousing chorus, the song was partly written while thinking about how young children are when they’re conditioned to follow gender roles – in particular, the “heartbreaking” process through which small boys are taught not to cry or show emotions. Speaking about the track, Anna said the following: It’s a song about the defiance of happiness. It’s about being free to identify yourself in whichever way you please, without any restraints from society.”

Watch the video from Szun Waves (Luke Abbott, Laurence Pike and Jack Wyllie) for the track 'Constellation' which is taken from their upcoming album 'New Hymn To Freedom'.

The second album from Szun Waves sees the trio working in complete colloboration,  From Wyllie adding shimmering sustained sax notes to Abbott’s gorgeous ambient pieces, Szun Waves emerged when Pike was added to the mix, energising the sound but still keeping its levitational qualities. Their 2016 self-released debut album hit a natural groove – it was a “proof of concept” as Abbott says – and now they’re in a place of pure spontaneity: New Hymn To Freedom is a document of six entirely live improvisations – “no edits or overdubs”

Sean Nicholas Savage 'Screamo'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Sean Nicholas Savage shares the latest track taken from his upcoming album 'Screamo' out 15th June 2018 via Arbutus Records. Watch the video for 'Abracadabra' above.

On Screamo, Savage explores teenage angst, naivity, drama and thrill. Nostalgic, like a summer film that makes you feel for a decade you never lived through and yet understand to your soul, Screamo is packed with wonder, hope and roller rink ballads. Across the spectrum of a saga of avant garde pop music, Savage is renowned for his bitter sweet ballads, naked and raw, a fruit of which Screamo almost exclusively bares, and at that their most nude, most humiliated, most adrift.
