ONE TRUE PAIRING 'DAWN AT THE FACTORY' OUT 3RD SEPTEMBER 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
One True Pairing 'One True Pairing'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tom Fleming will release his debut solo album under the guise One True Pairing on September 20th. Having previously shared the title track, “One True Pairing”, and recent single “I’m Not Afraid”; today, Fleming unveils new single “Dawn At The Factory”. Over looming synths, Tom emphatically sings “Where the strip lights shine, I give you my life”. Listen above.

Talking about the song, he says: “2019’s satanic mills - zero hours, suicide nets, universal credit, cheap labour. The blue-white glow of the factories out on the gyratory and the plastic clad office blocks of the town centre. I wanted to strip the romance back and look at what makes this country run, what makes it tick. The factories are hungry and it’s you they want. I wanted it to sound like the open road but there’s just too much barbed wire around it. The same every night. You do what you have to do. Knackered synths and a Floyd rose. Hope you enjoy it, OTP 2019 x”.

One True Pairing is “the angry northern Springsteen record that I'd always wanted to make” says Tom Fleming, “it's neo-heartland rock". These "heartlands” are the moors above Bradford or Cumbernauld, "places where people live their whole lives and do these things and succeed and fail.” Within this there’s a continuation of the exploration of masculinity that made his former band so unique. As well as being deeply personal, OTP has a wider political resonance, he believes that class is entirely discounted from the current conversation about inclusivity and privilege. In its 11 songs of discordant guitar and aggressive synth Fleming channels his discontent with Britain in 2019 and a “feeling of directionless rage and cheatedness which hasn't gone away."

Having just wrapped an extensive US tour in support of Snail Mail, Los Angeles songwriter and multi-instrumentalist SASAMI returns with a brand new single, “Take Care”. Watch the video above.

-Self-directed, SASAMI says of the video: “Everyone has a destructive, reckless side- however much they choose or allow the world to see it. The video for ‘Take Care’ is about embracing that destructive side of you and forgiving yourself. Even when you are lost and want to give up, loving yourself and forgiving. Also there’s a little reminder to donate to RAICESTEXAS.COM because once you help yourself, you need to help others.”

ONE TRUE PAIRING 'ONE TRUE PAIRING' OUT 20TH SEPTEMBER 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
One True Pairing 'One True Pairing'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Tom Fleming will release his debut solo album under the guise One True Pairing. The former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist shared the first taste of his new direction earlier this month with “One True Pairing”, the titular track of the upcoming record. Watch the music video above.

Today, Fleming is pleased to share the second song from the self-titled album, “I’m Not Afraid”. With its refrain - “We’ve been kicked our whole lives and I’m not afraid, But I won’t go back down to that place again” - Tom sets his intention for One True Pairing.

“I wanted to write about the real world, I didn't want it to be an artistic, poised, tasteful record, it’s neo-heartland rock" says Tom Fleming. "One True Pairing is a name taken from internet fan fiction, where you write the perfect relationship you always wished existed. The idea of Prince Charming and Helpless Princess living happily after is no fun at all.”

Tom’s musical touchstones were Bruce Springsteen, Don Henley, Tom Petty alongside Depeche Mode and Swans. He wrote and played everything himself and then brought in Ben Hillier (Nadine Shah, Graham Coxon) on mixing and production duties.

One True Pairing is an album shaped by class frustration and self-despair and there is a continuation of the exploration of masculinity that made Wild Beasts so unique. As well as being deeply personal, OTP has a wider political resonance. "This country is going through a terrible moment and if you listen to the art nobody seems to give a shit,” Fleming says emphatically. He believes that class is entirely discounted from the current conversation about inclusivity and privilege. In its 11 songs of discordant guitar and aggressive synth Fleming channels his discontent with Britain in 2019 and a “feeling of directionless rage and cheatedness which hasn't gone away."

WARMDUSCHER 'MIDNIGHT DIPPER' OUT 24TH JULY 2019 (DOMINO PUBLISHING)

Warmduscher 'Midnight Dipper'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Warmduscher’s release their new single 'Midnight Dipper' and announce their upcoming album 'Tainted Lunch' out 1st November 2019 via Leaf Label. Watch the video featuring Iggy Pop above.

Do you know that sinewy young fellow ploughing his way though the fields? Why, it’s Walt Clipper, and he has something to say. An armful of methamphetamine and a satchel full of anabolic steroids, driving a seven-wheeled behemoth at light-speed along a crystal highway. He is that neural terrorist of unknowing wisdom. Your friend and mine. Won’t you hear his story?

Let me tell you, morning is the time for breakfast and I am just in time for tea. ‘Midnight Dipper’ has set a new bar for myself, the altruistic lust-conduit, to leap over. I have attempted to raise my limp and worthless body from my chair several times in a futile bid to resume the dance of my forebears, but to no avail. I end up, still, a used tissue of a man, crumpled on the floor, calling for help.

If Warmduscher’s music can do this to an individual such as myself, imagine what it will do when played live in the discotheques and dancehalls of Berlin, Paris, Ghent and Jalalabad… rammed music-halls around the globe will tremble and swell with rapturous applause. ‘Head pulled back, eyes closed tight…’, our magnificent orator, Clams Baker Jr. III commands, this is how you must listen, dear reader. This is how you must live. Dr. Alan Goldfarb, 2019.

WATCHING (SANDY) ALEX G 'HOPE' (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
(Sandy) Alex G 'House Of Sugar'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

(Sandy) Alex G has shared a new track and accompanying video, “Hope”, from his forthcoming album, House of Sugar.

(Sandy) Alex G, a.k.a. the singer, songwriter, and musician Alex Giannascoli, began writing the songs that would ultimately become House of Sugar in the fall of 2017. Whereas with earlier efforts, such as 2011’s self-released Winner or the landmark 2014 release DSU, music was written and recorded at a prolific clip, with these new songs Giannascoli approached the recording process with a newfound deliberateness, concentrating on a smaller collection of songs and laboring over each with more focus and acuity than ever before.

Giannascoli worked closely with Jacob Portrait, who mixed both Rocket and 2015’s Beach Music, and helped to balance each of House of Sugar’s dense, multi-faceted tracks. As the product of extended focus and planning, House of Sugar emerges as Giannascoli’s most meticulous, cohesive album yet: a statement of artistic purpose, showing off his ear for both persistent earworms and shifting textures, and the out-there sonic adventurism that’s made previous (Sandy) Alex G records so singular.

Lower Dens 'Young Republicans'

Four years since their critically acclaimed album, Escape From Evil, Lower Dens recently announced their newest creation - The Competition - which will be released on Ribbon Music on September 6th.  Today, Lower Dens are happy to share the video for the second single from the album, directed by Jason Nocito, featuring choreography by Veleda Roehl and dancers Stephannie Henriquez & Steven Jeltsch. “I Drive” follows on the heels - in both sequence and theme - of the album’s lead single Young Republicans, about a certain sect of society's elite. On “I Drive,” Jana Hunter sings inquisitively “We had streets. But now there’s just police.  I drive at night.

On “I Drive”, Hunter says, “Like a lot of queer and trans people, I've learned that real family is made, and it isn't necessarily blood. Even my blood relatives, we work for that familial connection and trust. This song is about leaving behind obligations to people who don't love or care about you, being with and about people who do. It's a feeling so strong it's driving me. That's the driving I'm doing."

VILLAGERS 'SUMMER'S SONG' OUT 9TH JULY 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

Villagers 'Summer's Song'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Villagers are pleased to share a brand new single, “Summer’s Song”. Featuring a chorus of six flugelhorns, “Summer’s Song” was written and produced by Conor O’Brien and mixed by the legendary Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, Flaming Lips, MGMT). Watch the video above.

In Conor’s words: “Summer's Song is the closest I'll ever get to writing a pure pop song. I just had to roll with it and I'm glad I did; it was really just an excuse to make the horns sound like sunbeams. Boy it's fun to play live. I can't quite believe we managed to get the magical touch of Dave Fridmann in on the mix”. The video - animated by Joe May and illustrated by Patricio Bauzá - is equally drenched with memories of summers past and anticipation of those to come.

Fresh from supporting Mumford & Sons on their recent UK arena tour, Villagers will be playing shows throughout the summer including a sold-out gig at Dublin’s glorious Iveagh Gardens (his biggest ever headline - 4000 cap).  A European tour including Paradiso, Amsterdam and the Rolling Stone Weekenders in Germany have also been announced for November.

Villagers released their acclaimed fourth album The Art Of Pretending To Swim last year and O’Brien has a string of accolades under his belt including two Ivor Novello Awards, two Mercury Music Prize nominations and is a previous winner of Ireland’s Choice Music Prize.

Additionally, Villagers’ music has featured in both seasons of HBO drama ‘Big Little Lies’ – reaching the Top 60 Shazam charts in the UK and US last month - and their Spotify session of “Nothing Arrived” has hit over 130 million streams.

BILL RYDER-JONES 'YAWNY YAWN' OUT 26TH JULY 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Bill Ryder-Jones 'Yawny Yawn'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

At the end of 2018, Bill Ryder-Jones released the critically acclaimed Yawn – his beautiful fourth album. He has now reimagined the songs from Yawn, this time with only vocals and piano, opening an even more intimate window onto his world. Taking inspiration from The Beach Boys, Bill has titled this alternative version of the record Yawny Yawn and it will be released on July 26th. The first track to recieve a reimagining is 'Don't Be Scared, I Love you' which can be watched above.

In his own inimitable style, Bill Ryder-Jones says: “I can't remember why I thought it was a good idea to make a piano version of Yawn, I presume at some point I felt that the original had too much pep. Was actually quite fun to make although I've since developed a dislike for the way my hands look”.

Similarly to Yawn, the album artwork for Yawny Yawn features a family photo. Bill adds: “Much like the artwork for Yawn, this photo just looked like it should be an album cover. Whereas Yawn featured my brother, our babysitter and myself in the background, the artwork for Yawny Yawn shows me at my aunt's house aged 3 and playing my keyboard.”

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, string-arranger and composer Bill Ryder-Jones has had a career spanning 15 years, a rarity in a world that so often looks to the new.  From his musical interpretation of Italo Calvino’s ‘If On A Winters Night A Traveller' (If… in 2011), 2013’s A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart, West Kirby County Primary (2015) and last year’s Yawn, Bill has constantly widened his scope, weaving in an overarching sense of authenticity, intimacy and wryness as he goes.

DOMINO ALL-IN
Nerija 'Riverfest'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Nérija announce their debut album, Blume, due for release on 2nd August 2019 on Domino. With the announcement of Blume comes the first track from the record, “Riverfest” - written by the whole band, could perhaps be the entry point for anyone new to Nérija. With blistering playing from the band, it’s a track that exudes feeling, capturing the best aspects of their live sets while adding some indefinable studio magic. Listen to the track above.

Nérija are the septet of contemporary jazz luminaries, Nubya Garcia (tenor saxophone), Sheila Maurice-Grey (trumpet), Cassie Kinoshi (alto saxophone), Rosie Turton (trombone), Shirley Tetteh (guitar), Lizy Exell (drums) and Rio Kai (bass). Rooted in friendship, Nérija is a collective whose breakneck shifts in tempo and style rely on a deep understanding of mood, temperament and expression, a solid show of trust that extends beyond the usual bonds between musicians.

Recorded in the boat-shaped confines of London’s legendary Soup Studios and produced by Kwes, the overarching goal with Blume was to simply capture the rawness, warmth, joy and the spirit of their relationship and performance. One of the recording aims was to channel the feel of Teo Macero and Stanley Tonkel’s records with Miles Davis during his Columbia years, thinking “forward” as they did but for this band, capturing the controlled chaos and frame it with a timeless elegance.

Blume is a truly breath-taking collection of compositions that perfectly encapsulates everything Nérija; vibrant, engaging, infectious and truly current. For just over an hour, they take us on a sprawling wonderful journey, arriving at what is a majestic body of work; their personal and collective experiences and inspirations over the last half decade or so.

LOWER DENS 'THE COMPETITION' OUT 6TH SEPTEMBER 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Lower Dens 'Young Republicans'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Four years since their critically acclaimed album, Escape From Evil, Lower Dens are proud to announce their newest creation -- The Competition -- which will be released via Ribbon Music on September 6th. The album’s first song “Young Republicans,” can be watched above.

The Competition is a pop album with a concept both emotionally and politically urgent. By design, competition is the driving force of modern capitalism, and the title is lead singer and songwriter Jana Hunter’s (pronouns: they/them, him/his) term for a socio-psychological phenomenon this generates, a kind of psychosis that accelerates our insecurities and anxieties to the point of total overload, corroding our intimacies, our communities, and our senses of self.

The new album speaks, in various ways, to the necessity of what Hunter describes as “socially de-conditioning ourselves and learning how to be people.”  Ranging in scope from the very personal to the political, each song is linked by a theme that expresses the connection of one to the other.  The lyrics are steeped in humor and visceral, sometimes grotesque imagery: “I stood there stupefied by your pretty face/And spitting blood onto your shirt and your pretty face/I said I might love you,” Hunter sings in “Buster Keaton.” In “Empire Sundown” — about overthrowing the plutocrats — they sing, “Look them in the eyes when they push you/Off the raft and make them watch you drown.”

Musically, Hunter’s tastes have always been expansive (they cite serpentwithfeet, Hand Habits, Travis Scott, Faten Kanaan, and Elon Battle, aka :3LON — who appears on feature “I Drive,” as well as three other songs on the album — as some current favourites).  These and other musical tomes inspired them to try layering recorded sounds, performances, midi and synth instruments in walls of sound. The result is a pop album that unifies theme and feel, and swallows you up: The songs are dense with guitars, drums, bass, and synth, but also accordion, French horn, trumpet, bassoon, and flute.

NIGHT MOVES 'CAN YOU REALLY FIND ME' OUT 28TH JUNE 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

Night Moves 'Can You Really Find Me'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Domino announces Can You Really Find Me, the new album from Night Moves, due for release on June 28th. Accompanying the news of the album comes new track “Strands Align” and its’ Cameron Dutra-directed video, starring John Pelant and Micky Alfano from the band as well as actor Chris Mulkey (Twin Peaks, Whiplash, Boardwalk Empire). Watch above.

Night Moves new album, Can You Really Find Me, pulsates and glows with the same sublime energy that radiated from breakout single “Carl Sagan” in 2016, however in the intervening years, John Pelant and Micky Alfano have grown up. The songwriting, while still steeped in super-catchy, velvety riffs and pure pop glaze, feels more sophisticated and modern. Since the pair met in high school, awestruck by such ear-candy wizards as Brian Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, they set off to craft their version of what sophisticated, emotional modern pop music can and should sound like. 2016’s Pennied Days was a breakthrough, and set a new bar for the members of Night Moves. After spending the subsequent two years on Can You Really Find Me, they’ve scaled new heights, where the sounds are still just as sweet, but now smarter, more evocative, and perfectly designed for a summer release.

Can You Really Find Me was produced by Jim Eno (founding member and drummer of Spoon) out of Public Hi-Fi Studios in Austin, TX and recorded with live band members Mark Hanson and Chuck Murlowski

PETER PERRETT 'HUMANWORLD' OUT 7TH JUNE 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

Peter Perrett 'Humanworld'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Peter Perrett returns once again with Humanworld, out on the 7th June via Domino. Watch the music video for the album’s opening track, ‘I Want Your Dreams’, above.

One of the recent past’s most unexpected come-back stories, Peter Perrett – former frontman of The Only Ones - resurfaced in 2017 with How The West Was Won, an album that saw him chart in the UK, star on BBC Newsnight, sell out rooms at Electric Ballroom and Islington Assembly Hall, and collect accolades across the board.

In this new chapter, Peter continues to dissect romance and politics with his trademark sense of sardonic wit and wry humour, if not with more vigour even and a palpable sense of immediacy. Peter adds, “This record has got more urgency and the songs are more concise. Don’t like words such as progression but I hope this is texturally and sonically more interesting than How The West Was Won.”

Peter’s band includes his guitar and bass playing sons Jamie and Peter Jr, drummer Jake Woodward, Jenny Maxwell (Microkorg synthesiser, viola, BVs) and Lauren Moon (keys, drums, BVs) - a tight-knit bunch who have honed this album and the previous one with choice live performances here and in Europe.

Following the years of possibly having too much fun, Peter Perrett is in the process of rebuilding himself, his family, and his art. Working with his sons and fronting another great band, he’s firmly back on track. Humanworld features a production credit for Peter’s son Jamie who also contributes a song to the album (‘Master of Destruction’); and the story of knitting a family back together following a history of chaos and addiction now takes a step closer to centre stage.

NEW SIGNING: ARLO DAY 'BAD TIMING' OUT 31ST MAY 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN

Arlo Day is the moniker of Alice Barlow, a young songwriter and guitarist from South-East London whose unique ear for melody, haunting vocals and rumbling guitar tones have gained a quiet reputation as one of the capital’s best kept secrets. Newly-signed to iconic indie label Domino, Arlo Day has today revealed her debut single ‘Bad Timing’ and its emotive video. ‘Bad Timing’ is the lead single and title track taken from her first EP out 31st May.

The video for ‘Bad Timing’ came together during the cold winter months of 2018 with Barlow collaborating alongside friends Holly Taylor, Elena Isolini and Esther Collins. The visuals were shot in the friends’ houses and all around South London. Barlow adds: ‘Like the song, the video is based around the disparity of time and hindsight, and how moments of the past can replay in your mind. We were inspired by photographs by Duane Michals and Katrien de Blauwer, and Lynne Ramsay’s short film Gasman.’

Self-produced and recorded at home, the Bad Timing EP is a trio of tracks that showcase her deft ability to write songs that are at once personal vignettes and brooding canvases for introspection and introduces Arlo Day as a singular and exciting new songwriting talent.
