Followers of the Big Issue may have noticed Kate Tempest  lead the cover with her Rick Rubin interview introducing this, her third studio album, 'The Book of Traps and Lessons'. It follows Tempest’s previous releases, 2014’s Everybody Down and 2017’s Let Them Eat Chaos, both of which were shortlisted for Mercury Prize in 2014 and 2017, respectively. Last year, Kate Tempest was nominated at The Brit Awards for Best Female Solo Performer.

Since her emergence in 2011, Kate Tempest has redefined what it means to be a wordsmith in the Modern Age. In 2013, Tempest won the Ted Hughes Award for her work Brand New Ancients. She was named a Next Generation Poet by the Poetry Book Society, a once-a-decade accolade. Her albums Everybody Down and Let Them Eat Chaos received nominations for the Mercury Music Prize. Last year, she received a nomination for Best Female Solo Performer at the 2018 Brit Awards.

After performing a passage of her popular 75-minute narrative poem, Brand New Ancients, on Charlie Rose. Legendary producer and American Recordings Founder Rick Rubin caught the show, tracked down her phone number, and made a call.  The album was crafted with Rick Rubin and Dan Carey over the course of the past five years and is an intense 45 minute set of tracks that comprise a narrative thread.

NERIJA 'BLUME' OUT 2ND AUGUST 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Nerija 'Riverfest'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Nérija announce their debut album, Blume, due for release on 2nd August 2019 on Domino. With the announcement of Blume comes the first track from the record, “Riverfest” - written by the whole band, could perhaps be the entry point for anyone new to Nérija. With blistering playing from the band, it’s a track that exudes feeling, capturing the best aspects of their live sets while adding some indefinable studio magic. Listen to the track above.

Nérija are the septet of contemporary jazz luminaries, Nubya Garcia (tenor saxophone), Sheila Maurice-Grey (trumpet), Cassie Kinoshi (alto saxophone), Rosie Turton (trombone), Shirley Tetteh (guitar), Lizy Exell (drums) and Rio Kai (bass). Rooted in friendship, Nérija is a collective whose breakneck shifts in tempo and style rely on a deep understanding of mood, temperament and expression, a solid show of trust that extends beyond the usual bonds between musicians.

Recorded in the boat-shaped confines of London’s legendary Soup Studios and produced by Kwes, the overarching goal with Blume was to simply capture the rawness, warmth, joy and the spirit of their relationship and performance. One of the recording aims was to channel the feel of Teo Macero and Stanley Tonkel’s records with Miles Davis during his Columbia years, thinking “forward” as they did but for this band, capturing the controlled chaos and frame it with a timeless elegance.

Blume is a truly breath-taking collection of compositions that perfectly encapsulates everything Nérija; vibrant, engaging, infectious and truly current. For just over an hour, they take us on a sprawling wonderful journey, arriving at what is a majestic body of work; their personal and collective experiences and inspirations over the last half decade or so.

Inspired by teaching songwriting in two southern California area women’s prisons, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Eleni Mandell will release Wake Up Again June 7, on Yep Roc Records. Watch the Inara George directed video for 'Circumstance' above.

“Circumstance was inspired by two different women. Neither accepted responsibility for what lead to their incarceration. One said, “it just happened.” The other woman claimed that it was all her boyfriend’s fault. The word ‘circumstance’ comes from ‘around’ and ‘stand’, which I thought applied so well to life in prison, which requires a lot of standing around.”

For nearly two years, through Jail Guitar Doors, the organization founded by MC5’s Wayne Kramer and Billy Bragg, and the William James AssociationMandell “loved working with the inmates, hearing their stories and seeing them light up when they heard their words come to life in a song.”

Produced by Sheldon Gomberg at his Silver Lake studio, the album features 11 original compositions with Mandell on vocals and acoustic guitar, Milo Jones (guitar), Ryan Feves (bass), and Kevin Fitzgerald (drums).

Cate Le Bon 'Reward'

Cate Le Bon has shared the latest video from her album 'Reward' released on 24th May via Mexican Summer. Watch above.

The video for “Home To You” was made in Košice, Slovakia in collaboration with residents of Lunik IX neighbourhood. It was directed by visual artist and filmmaker Phil Collins, who had previously worked in the city in 2013, and is co-produced with Kino Úsmev. Kino Úsmev's new educational initiative is aimed at establishing connections between young people from Lunik IX and other parts of the city through filmmaking workshops, practical production and public presentation of resulting works.

Reward (2019): 'It was on a mountainside in Cumbria that the first whispers of Cate Le Bon’s fifth studio album poked their buds above the earth. “There’s a strange romanticism to going a little bit crazy and playing the piano to yourself and singing into the night,” she says, recounting the year living solitarily in the Lake District which gave way to Reward. By day, ever the polymath, Le Bon painstakingly learnt to make solid wood tables, stools and chairs from scratch; by night she looked to a second-hand Meers — the first piano she had ever owned —for company, “windows closed to absolutely everyone”, and accidentally poured her heart out. The result is an album every bit as stylistically varied, surrealistically-inclined and tactile as those in the enduring outsider’s back catalogue, but one that is also intensely introspective and profound; her most personal to date.'

LOWER DENS 'THE COMPETITION' OUT 6TH SEPTEMBER 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Lower Dens 'Young Republicans'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Four years since their critically acclaimed album, Escape From Evil, Lower Dens are proud to announce their newest creation -- The Competition -- which will be released via Ribbon Music on September 6th. The album’s first song “Young Republicans,” can be watched above.

The Competition is a pop album with a concept both emotionally and politically urgent. By design, competition is the driving force of modern capitalism, and the title is lead singer and songwriter Jana Hunter’s (pronouns: they/them, him/his) term for a socio-psychological phenomenon this generates, a kind of psychosis that accelerates our insecurities and anxieties to the point of total overload, corroding our intimacies, our communities, and our senses of self.

The new album speaks, in various ways, to the necessity of what Hunter describes as “socially de-conditioning ourselves and learning how to be people.”  Ranging in scope from the very personal to the political, each song is linked by a theme that expresses the connection of one to the other.  The lyrics are steeped in humor and visceral, sometimes grotesque imagery: “I stood there stupefied by your pretty face/And spitting blood onto your shirt and your pretty face/I said I might love you,” Hunter sings in “Buster Keaton.” In “Empire Sundown” — about overthrowing the plutocrats — they sing, “Look them in the eyes when they push you/Off the raft and make them watch you drown.”

Musically, Hunter’s tastes have always been expansive (they cite serpentwithfeet, Hand Habits, Travis Scott, Faten Kanaan, and Elon Battle, aka :3LON — who appears on feature “I Drive,” as well as three other songs on the album — as some current favourites).  These and other musical tomes inspired them to try layering recorded sounds, performances, midi and synth instruments in walls of sound. The result is a pop album that unifies theme and feel, and swallows you up: The songs are dense with guitars, drums, bass, and synth, but also accordion, French horn, trumpet, bassoon, and flute.

Girl Band are happy to announce their new album “The Talkies” releasing through Rough Trade Records on September 27th, 2019. This is the follow up to their debut album “Holding Hands with Jamie” that came out four years ago. Watch the Bob Gallagher directed video for Shoulderblades above.

“The Talkies” was recorded in November 2018 at Ballintubbert House, a stately home on the outskirts of Dublin “a few pay grades above what we’re used to”. The alien construction of Ballintubbert and its corridors help to navigate Girl Bands cataclysmic sound within a world of its own.

Bandmember Alan Duggan underlines this thought: “In many ways the idea behind the album was to make an audio representation of the house” -Daniel continues - “We recorded all the drums twice: once on the landing and once in the cellar, and during production we could actually cut in between both these sounds.” The first track to be released from the album is Shoulderblades. Sonically, the landscape vacillates from a dissonant, distant horizon to a threatening “shh!” in your ear. The dark vocal line groove loops back on itself, building an unsettling momentum, caught up by the chugging snare with the ascending / descending snakes and ladders noise rock guitar that is so distinctively Girl Band.

DOMINO ALL-IN
(Sandy) Alex G 'House Of Sugar'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

(Sandy) Alex G, a.k.a. the singer, songwriter, and musician Alex Giannascoli, today announces news of a forthcoming album. Titled House of Sugar, the album is the Philadelphian’s ninth overall and third for Domino, and is due for release September 13th, 2019.

The album announcement is accompanied by a new song “Gretel”, which comes with a video shot by Zev Magasis

Giannascoli began writing the songs that would ultimately become House of Sugar in the fall of 2017. Whereas with earlier efforts, such as 2011’s self-released Winner or the landmark 2014 release DSU, music was written and recorded at a prolific clip, with these new songs Giannascoli approached the recording process with a newfound deliberateness, concentrating on a smaller collection of songs and laboring over each with more focus and acuity than ever before.

Giannascoli worked closely with Jacob Portrait, who mixed both Rocket and 2015’s Beach Music, and helped to balance each of House of Sugar’s dense, multi-faceted tracks. As the product of extended focus and planning, House of Sugar emerges as Giannascoli’s most meticulous, cohesive album yet: a statement of artistic purpose, showing off his ear for both persistent earworms and shifting textures, and the out-there sonic adventurism that’s made previous (Sandy) Alex G records so singular.

BEDOUINE 'BIRD SONGS OF A KILLJOY' OUT 21ST JUNE 2019 (DOMINO PUBLISHING)

Bedouine 'Bird Songs Of A Killjoy'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Bedouine shares the latest single 'Echo Park' from her upcoming album 'Bird Songs Of a Killjoy' out 21st June 2019 via Spacebomb Records. Watch above.

When you listen to the love songs of LA-based Bedouine, you will be reminded of Karen Dalton’s world-wise voice or the breathy seduction of Minnie Riperton's vocals, the easy cool of French ye-ye singers, and the poetry of Joan Baez. Her folk is nomadic, wandering across time and space. On first discovery you may ask whether they're dated to 2019, or whether you've uncovered some forgotten classic. It makes sense that singer-songwriter Azniv Korkejian's arrival – both musically and personally – on her second record has been influenced by her own wanderlust, displacement, and curiosity.

Bird Songs of a Killjoy is a soundtrack to Spring blossom, to warm air on skin, to the concept of possibility. Some of the songs on this sophomore effort were from that same time period of fruitful creativity as her self-titled debut, which came out in June 2017. She continued her creative partnership with Gus Seyffert (Beck, Norah Jones) who produced them in his studio. For Bedouine, these songs have already served their healing purpose. Now it's time for them to move others.

Nathan Micay shares the stunning manga inspired video for 'Ecstacy on the Maple Mountain' from his upcoming album 'Blue Spring' out 17th May 2019 via Lucky me. Watch above.

In 2016 Nathan Micay released Capsule’s Pride: a mixtape in tribute to Akira. The release was premiered with NPR First Listen and downloaded over 40 thousand times. Coveted by fans and supported by a wide range of music press, the record won many best of year awards. The following year, streetwear giant Supreme created an official Akira capsule collection that echoed the design of our release. Capsule’s Pride vinyl bootlegs have become sought after records with discogs collectors.

Three years later and Nathan has released a string of renowned dance releases for a range of great labels. He returns to LuckyMe for his debut album. Four tracks from the forthcoming Blue Spring have become viral videos on the private facebook group IOM (Identification Of Music). The group exists for young fans of new dance music to share videos of their favourite DJs playing out big records at clubs or festivals. The album was sent to a select handful of DJs in 2018 and without any public track IDs, the uncredited clips of this record have risen to over a million plays with thousands of comments speculating the names of the songs. We continue to share clips from Nathan’s friends playing out the release to close DJ sets every weekend in front of large audiences.

From the bold strokes of opening track ‘Fixture Picture’, there is an overriding sense of an enigmatic artist confident in their work, with contributions from Huw Evans (H. These New Puritans 'Inside The Rose'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

These New Puritans today unveil the video to their new song ‘Where The Trees Are On Fire’, lifted from their already acclaimed forthcoming album Inside The Rose, which is set for release next Friday, 22 March. The song is the haunting centrepiece of their forthcoming album, and the video is directed by band member George Barnett and Max Luz.

It’s an enigmatic portrait of Jack Barnett by his brother. Halfway through, the viewer transcends the stark painterly reality and is thrown into a world of ecstatic, saturated colour.

Jack dreamt the melody and lyrics. “Clichéd as it may seem, that’s how it came to me. I went through a period of dreaming loads of music. Most of it was crap – bad ‘80s synth pop or pub rock – but this was the best of them. Because I dreamt most of the lyrics, I don’t know exactly what it’s about, but I think it’s got something to do with the extremes of life, whether that’s oblivion or ecstasy.”

‘Where The Trees Are On Fire’ follows current single ‘Anti–Gravity’, as well as the album’s title track and ‘Into The Fire’, which debuted late last year to immense acclaim. The album arrives six years after the critically acclaimed album Field of Reeds, and is arguably the Barnett brothers' most innovative work to date.

Night Moves 'Can You Really Find Me'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Domino announces Can You Really Find Me, the new album from Night Moves, due for release on June 28th. Accompanying the news of the album comes new track “Strands Align” and its’ Cameron Dutra-directed video, starring John Pelant and Micky Alfano from the band as well as actor Chris Mulkey (Twin Peaks, Whiplash, Boardwalk Empire). Watch above.

Night Moves new album, Can You Really Find Me, pulsates and glows with the same sublime energy that radiated from breakout single “Carl Sagan” in 2016, however in the intervening years, John Pelant and Micky Alfano have grown up. The songwriting, while still steeped in super-catchy, velvety riffs and pure pop glaze, feels more sophisticated and modern. Since the pair met in high school, awestruck by such ear-candy wizards as Brian Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, they set off to craft their version of what sophisticated, emotional modern pop music can and should sound like. 2016’s Pennied Days was a breakthrough, and set a new bar for the members of Night Moves. After spending the subsequent two years on Can You Really Find Me, they’ve scaled new heights, where the sounds are still just as sweet, but now smarter, more evocative, and perfectly designed for a summer release.

Can You Really Find Me was produced by Jim Eno (founding member and drummer of Spoon) out of Public Hi-Fi Studios in Austin, TX and recorded with live band members Mark Hanson and Chuck Murlowski

Peter Perrett 'Humanworld'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Peter Perrett returns once again with Humanworld, out on the 7th June via Domino. Watch the music video for the album’s opening track, ‘I Want Your Dreams’, above.

One of the recent past’s most unexpected come-back stories, Peter Perrett – former frontman of The Only Ones - resurfaced in 2017 with How The West Was Won, an album that saw him chart in the UK, star on BBC Newsnight, sell out rooms at Electric Ballroom and Islington Assembly Hall, and collect accolades across the board.

In this new chapter, Peter continues to dissect romance and politics with his trademark sense of sardonic wit and wry humour, if not with more vigour even and a palpable sense of immediacy. Peter adds, “This record has got more urgency and the songs are more concise. Don’t like words such as progression but I hope this is texturally and sonically more interesting than How The West Was Won.”

Peter’s band includes his guitar and bass playing sons Jamie and Peter Jr, drummer Jake Woodward, Jenny Maxwell (Microkorg synthesiser, viola, BVs) and Lauren Moon (keys, drums, BVs) - a tight-knit bunch who have honed this album and the previous one with choice live performances here and in Europe.

Following the years of possibly having too much fun, Peter Perrett is in the process of rebuilding himself, his family, and his art. Working with his sons and fronting another great band, he’s firmly back on track. Humanworld features a production credit for Peter’s son Jamie who also contributes a song to the album (‘Master of Destruction’); and the story of knitting a family back together following a history of chaos and addiction now takes a step closer to centre stage.

NEW SIGNING: ARLO DAY 'BAD TIMING' OUT 31ST MAY 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN

Arlo Day is the moniker of Alice Barlow, a young songwriter and guitarist from South-East London whose unique ear for melody, haunting vocals and rumbling guitar tones have gained a quiet reputation as one of the capital’s best kept secrets. Newly-signed to iconic indie label Domino, Arlo Day has today revealed her debut single ‘Bad Timing’ and its emotive video. ‘Bad Timing’ is the lead single and title track taken from her first EP out 31st May.

The video for ‘Bad Timing’ came together during the cold winter months of 2018 with Barlow collaborating alongside friends Holly Taylor, Elena Isolini and Esther Collins. The visuals were shot in the friends’ houses and all around South London. Barlow adds: ‘Like the song, the video is based around the disparity of time and hindsight, and how moments of the past can replay in your mind. We were inspired by photographs by Duane Michals and Katrien de Blauwer, and Lynne Ramsay’s short film Gasman.’

Self-produced and recorded at home, the Bad Timing EP is a trio of tracks that showcase her deft ability to write songs that are at once personal vignettes and brooding canvases for introspection and introduces Arlo Day as a singular and exciting new songwriting talent.

Hot Chip 'A Bath Full of Ecstasy'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Hot Chip will release their electrifying seventh album, A Bath Full of Ecstasy, on June 21st. Their third album for Domino, A Bath Full of Ecstasy is the group’s definitive release, crystallising the sound they’ve become celebrated for – bridging euphoria and melancholy with colourful melodies, idiosyncratic vocalisations and pounding electronic pop rhythms. Watch the Saman Kesh directed music video above.

Recorded in Paris and London, the album sees the group (Owen Clarke, Al Doyle Joe Goddard, Felix Martin and Alexis Taylor) open up to a more adventurous and collaborative song-writing process, choosing to work with outside producers for the first time: Philippe Zdar, the French maestro who’s shaped the magic of Cassius and Phoenix, and Rodaidh McDonald, the Scot who’s collaborated with The XX, David Byrne and Sampha, among others.

Today, the band share the first song from the record, ‘Hungry Child’; for 6 glorious minutes, Hot Chip fuse the uplifting soft pads and melodic keys of classic soulful house and the percussive swing of UK garage, full of sweet vocalisations and rhythmic snaps, to make an instant, club-ready hit. The video for ‘Hungry Child’ is directed by Saman Kesh and features Martin Starr and Milana Vayntrub.

HAYDEN THORPE 'DIVINER' THE DEBUT SOLO ALBUM OUT 24TH MAY 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

Hayden Thorpe 'Diviner'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

It is with great pleasure that Domino announce Diviner, the debut solo album from Hayden Thorpe, due for release on 24th May 2019. Along with the news of Diviner, Hayden Thorpe shares the new track, “Love Crimes” plus a video, directed by Alexandra Liveris. Watch above.

Diviner is a deeply emotional album: lyrically generous in its candid tone and self-awareness, the melodies resonant with sense memory. The album feels like a startling departure from Thorpe’s previous work with Wild Beasts and also unlike anything else being made at the moment.

Written in a deep period of flux; at points in California, Cornwall and at his home in London - the latter acting as a womb-like space where he worked out his new life, story and belief systems. “My adulthood was based on a certain belief system, a band, a family. When it shifted entirely, I had a ghost I had to find a new haunt for,” Thorpe notes. But his belief in songs as transformative entities kept him going. “I believe in the medicinal properties of songs. I believe in their healing properties,” he says. “Songs defy time, they don’t erode or denature, they come with you and reform anew in your mind as and when you need them.”

“I broke up with myself. So this is a break-up album, but not about a relationship. It’s a break-up from a past self, it’s a breakup from the old idea of yourself and therefore every relationship, of all kinds, that you’ve ever had.” Throughout the record, Thorpe’s voice is a beacon - paired with weaving piano, ambient guitar drifts and propulsive bass lines - his sound is even more powerfully unfettered than before, as if he’d found a new inner voice, a new way to use his instrument.

Last month, Clinic announced their return with news of their first album in seven years alongside playing live at BBC 6 Music’s Festival. Entitled Wheeltappers and Shunters, the new album will be released on May 10th, and is named after the long-forgotten 1970s ITV variety show The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club, compered by Bernard Manning, which recreated the smoky, boozy atmosphere of Northern working men's clubs for a sofa-bound audience.

The album was recorded last year in founding band member Hartley's Liverpool studio, before they brought in Dilip Harris (King Krule, Sons Of Kemet, Mount Kimbie) to mix it. “We thought it felt right to make a fun, dancefloor album in these dark and conservative times,” Blackburn continues. “We didn’t plan it. Within the set of songs that we’d worked on for it there was a thread of it being a bit more rock’n’roll, a bit more UP! It had that sort of feel to it early on.”

LITTLE CUB 'MILLENNIUM PEOPLE' OUT 1ST APRIL 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Little Cub 'Millennium People'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Little Cub return with the new single 'Millennium People' a savage satire with a clear intent to unsettle, watch the video above.

“Millennium People” is the first new recording from Little Cub following their debut album, Still Life, in 2017 and was mixed by David Wrench (David Byrne, The xx). As if Vangelis sound tracked a Cronenberg movie - but in the Hacienda - this party is here to “bring the people together” but with a caveat. The track takes aim at those who cry for reason, and those who don’t cry at all; as singer Dominic Gore proclaims, “Maybe it’s time, the great British lifeboat capsized?”

Degenerate sloganeering (‘Millennium People’ is named after a J.G. Ballard novel after all) commands you to throw sense and servility out the window. With driving synths and tempos that drunkenly waver like society teetering on the brink, the arrival of the chorus comes to snap you to your senses.

It’s time for organising, it’s time for vulgarity and as Adam Curtis said the time has come to ask “whether you really want change or just the banks to be a bit nicer to you”.

GEORGIA SHARES NEW SINGLE 'ABOUT WORK THE DANCEFLOOR' (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Georgia 'About Work The Dancefloor'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Georgia has returned with her latest single, “About Work The Dancefloor”. Watch the music video above.

“About Work The Dancefloor” is a defiant slice of electro-pop, exploring love, passion, melancholy and the thrill of finding yourself on the dancefloor. Showcasing Georgia’s upbeat pop brilliance, the track is a reflection of the rich influences of Georgia’s personal experience with club culture. “About Work The Dancefloor” follows the euphoric hit single, “Started Out” which reached the A-list at BBC Radio1 and broke in to the top 15 in the Shazam charts.

“About Work The Dancefloor is a song written in response to the clubbing culture I experienced in cities whilst touring. Going out and getting that emotion or sensation from a collective energy in various spaces. It’s that stuff of old school disco, the thrill of the dance floor” says Georgia on the track. The video was directed by NYSU in Madrid.

WATCHING SORRY 'JEALOUS BOY' OUT 21ST MARCH 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Sorry 'Jealous Boy'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

North London’s Sorry have shared their new track and video ‘Jealous Guy’ on Domino, watch above.

‘Jealous Guy’ is Sorry’s first new music of 2019, following their acclaimed 7” ‘Showgirl’/’Twinkle’, which received glowing  praise from Pitchfork and Dazed, and saw the band perform live for Marc Riley on BBC Radio 6 Music - and ‘Starstruck, a track that caught the eye of BBC Radio 1, seeing multiple plays across the station this year and last.

A sideways look at the John Lennon and The Plastic Ono Band song of the same name, ‘Jealous Guy’s buoyant tone finds a perfect juxtaposition cut with principal songwriters and vocalists Asha Lorenz and Louis O’Bryen’s sly and witty lyrics: “I'm just a jealous guy, watch out.” The riotous video for ‘Jealous Guy’ was directed by the band’s Asha, frequent Sorry visuals collaborator Flo Webb - the pair operate under the Flasha moniker - and Jasper Cable-Alexander. Asha explains, “We played on the saxophone idea - I guess like a Madness or The Specials video, or like The Blues Brothers, sharply dressed and funny, with interesting shots of us about town. The theme of jealousy runs through the video and the last shot is me [Asha] killing Louis due to her jealousy, after the realisation that Louis is too good at writing songs.”

Centred around Asha and O'Bryen, two 20 and 21-year-old childhood best friends, Sorry were signed by Domino after developing a reputation as the most thrilling new band on London’s underground circuit. Sorry’s lineup is completed by Lincoln Barrett on drums and bassist Campbell Baum.

WATCHING FAT WHITE FAMILY 'TASTES GOOD WITH THE MONEY' DIR. ROISIN MURPHY (DOMINO ALL-IN)

Fat White Family 'Tastes Good With The Money'

Following the recent announcement of their third album, Serfs Up!, Fat White Family have shared the video to Tastes Good With The Money, an absurd Monty Python inspired ‘romp’ directed by Roisin Murphy. Watch above.

Talking about the video, Roisin said:

The idea of referencing Monty Python partly came out of the somewhat absurd and confusing political landscape that we are now living in Britain, Python seems prescient. The British laughing at themselves, a certain kind glee even in the loss of empire, singing as the ship goes down, well it just seems so...of the moment. There is this deep ambivalence to the establishment that resonates with the Fat Whites own irreverent world view.

Most of all I wanted an idea that would give them the confidence and the space to really let go and just perform, too allow them to be raw in what is essentially an unnatural situation for a bunch of ne’er do well musicians.

When I look at the video, what I see is the trust they put in me and I’m so proud of that. Maybe it’s because I am a performer too but they let themselves be put in a kind-of vulnerable situation; they allowed themselves to be foolish, silly and absurd in a way that could have gone tits-up, however, the result is hilarious and the performances are second to none.

Additionally, the  band are set to play a number of in-store shows the week of release of Serfs Up! The London & Kingston in-stores give fans a chance to see the band perform their unmissable full live show in tiny spaces, while the remaining shows see the band perform stripped back re-imaginings of the songs in a baroque style.

STEPHEN MALKMUS 'GROOVE DENIED' OUT 15TH MARCH 2019 (DOMINO RECORDINGS)

DOMINO RECORDINGS
Stephen Malkmus 'Groove Denied'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

The secret electronic album that Stephen Malkmus has been telling everyone about will see the light of day on March 15th, when it’s released on Domino. The first taste of Stephen’s new groove comes with the release of single ‘Viktor Borgia’, and its accompanying video starring Stephen alone in a dance club. Watch above.

The title playfully merges the name of the comedian-pianist and the ruthless dynasty of Italo-Spanish nobles. With its stately melody and the almost-English-accented vocal, the coordinates here are early Human League or even Men Without Hats. “I was thinking things like Pete Shelley’s ‘Homosapien’, the Human League, and DIY synth music circa 1982,” says Stephen, adding “and also about how in the New Wave Eighties, these suburban 18-and-over dance clubs were where all the freaks would meet – a sanctuary.”

Groove Denied will shake up settled notions of what Malkmus is about and what he’s capable of, repositioning him in the scheme of things. But looking at it from a different angle, his engagement with state-of-art digital tech actually makes perfect sense. After all, Nineties lo-fi – the sound in which he and Pavement were initially vaunted as leaders and pioneers - was nothing if not insistently sonic – it was all about the grain of guitar textures, about gratuitously over-done treatments and ear-grabbing effects. Noise for noise’s sake. As Stephen tweeted recently on the subject of Auto-Tune’s omnipresence in contemporary music-making: “We long 4 transformation....and we humans fucking luv tools.”

WATCHING PRAM ‘DOLL’S EYES’ VIDEO, DIRECTED BY SCOTT JOHNSTON (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Pram 'Across The Meridian'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Following the release of Across The Meridian – their first album in 11 years – Pram have shared a new video for ‘Doll’s Eyes’, directed by Scott Johnston. Watch the video above.

"Pram's music often conjures a world for me that lies disconcertingly between adult nostalgia, childhood terrors,” says Johnston of the new video. “For this track I took those feelings literally! The concept became, what if I were making this video when I was a 12-year old home movie monster kid, using Super8mm, crude props and friends/family pets, all mashed up with a teen's heightened view of love and obsession?"

Released in 2018, Across The Meridian is a celebration of Pram’s unique vision, focused into a beautifully constructed and tautly produced soundworld. As with their previous albums, Across the Meridian mixes instrumentals and songs, weaving a gleeful path through the musical territory of film scores, 30s jazz, sun-drenched pop, electronica, and post-punk experimentation. Haunting and wistful vocals are set to a variety of soundscapes, sometimes appearing as a snatched fragment of the subconscious and dreamlike, at others crafting a story of longing or regret, drawing the listener into Pram’s uncanny world through the mirror. Newcomers to Pram will find a richly detailed collage of influences ranging from exotica, Krautrock and the forgotten film soundtracks that went on to inspire contemporaries Stereolab & Broadcast.

Aldous Harding announces her latest album 'Designer' Out 26th April 2019 via 4ad. Watch the video for 'The Barrel' above.

Designer finds the Aldous Harding hitting her creative stride.  After Party, Harding came off a 100-date tour last summer and went straight into the studio with a collection of songs written on the road.  Reuniting with John Parish, producer of Party, Harding spent 15 days recording and 10 days mixing at Rockfield Studios, Monmouth and Bristol’s J&J Studio and Playpen.

From the bold strokes of opening track ‘Fixture Picture’, there is an overriding sense of an enigmatic artist confident in their work, with contributions from Huw Evans (H. Hawkline), Stephen Black (Sweet Baboo), drummer Gwion Llewelyn and violinist Clare Mactaggart broadening and complimenting Harding’s rich and timeless songwriting.

CLINIC 'WHEELTAPPERS AND SHUNTERS' OUT 10TH MAY 2019 (DOMINO PUBLISHING)

DOMINO ALL-IN
Clinic 'Wheeltappers and Shunters'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

After a seven year break, Clinic, Liverpool’s cherished post-punk pop experimentalists return with album number eight, released on May 10th by Domino Records. The first track to be shared from Wheeltappers and Shunters is ‘Rubber Bullets’, watch the Joseph May directed music video above.

Wheeltappers and Shunters is neither a celebration nor a denigration of the culture of the era in which Blackburn and his collaborator-in-chief, Hartley, grew up. “It’s a satirical take on British culture - high and low,” explains Blackburn. “It fascinates me that people look back on the 1970s as the glory days. It’s emerged that there was a darker, more perverse side to that time. When you look back on it now it was quite clearly there in mainstream culture.”

Fun, sure, but this is Clinic – their brand of fun oozes with menace.

The Great Britain that Clinic are evoking is not that ancient, bucolic past of village green cricket, half a mild and hanky-waving Morris Dancers that many seem so determined that the country should return to, but a rather more sleazy past. Clinic’s reverie is for a time when Blackpool was the pleasure capital of the kingdom and the public was kept entertained by travelling circuses and the dirty glamour of the funfair; tacky end of the pier merriment and enforced fun at Butlins; when bell-ringing town criers bellowed their nonsensical broadsides into the ether.
