DRILL FESTIVAL IN BRIGHTON FEATURING THESE NEW PURITANS, GOLD PANDA, THE WYTCHES AND ADRIAN CROWLEY: 4TH - 7TH DECEMBER 2014

COOL STUFF
'Fields Of Reeds'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

The concepts behind DRILL : FESTIVAL are simple: to challenge preconceptions of Wire. To show-case their impact on and relationship with groups and artists from younger generations, to connect with both new and established artists whose work they find inspiring and feel that they have a kinship with. This then opens up opportunities for one-off collaborations – DRILL : BRIGHTON for example will see Wire team up with rock titans SWANS to perform an extended version of the always-mutating Wire track ‘Drill’, as well as the return of the historic 'Pinkflag Guitar Orchestra', which sees
Wire joined onstage by members of bands who are involved over the course of the festival, along with local friends, allies and past collaborators, the guitarists then play an extended, improvised version of Wire's ‘Pink Flag’ at high volume.

SEE THE FULL LINE-UP HERE

Domino Publishing artists playing include THESE NEW PURITANS, GOLD PANDA, THE WYTCHES and ADRIAN CROWLEY.

For DRILL : BRIGHTON Wire and One Inch Badge are delivering the most ambitious and realised DRILL : FESTIVAL yet, with upwards of 100 bands, artists, films, talks and exhibitions, across 14 different venues, across 4 days from the 4th to 7th December 2014.

DOMINO: RECORD STORE DAY 19TH APRIL 2014

COOL STUFF

A range of special edition releases listed below will be sold exclusively through independent outlets around the country.

Julia Holter – ‘Don't Make Me Over’ by Dionne Warwick and ‘Hello Stranger’ 7”

Julia Holter's 7" single features a brand new, full band studio recording of her version of ‘Don't Make Me Over’, a song originally performed by Dionne Warwick and written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The AA-side is ‘Hello Stranger’, another cover (this time of Barbara Lewis) and one of the highlights of last year's much-lauded Loud City Song album. The single's beautiful artwork was designed by long-time Holter collaborator Rick Bahto.

Hamilton Leithauser – ‘Alexandra’ and ‘In The Shallows’ B-side 7”

Having announced his debut solo album Black Hours via Ribbon Music (Domino) on May 5th, Hamilton Leithauser is marking a new chapter in his career, beginning by releasing a special double-sided 7” for Record Store Day.

‘Alexandra’’, the first track to be taken from Black Hours , will be available on 7” vinyl. The B-side will be ‘In The Shallows’, a brand new track recorded during Hamilton’s album sessions. Guests across the two tracks include Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend), Morgan Henderson (Fleet Foxes), Paul Maroon (The Walkmen), Richard Swift (The Shins/solo) and Hugh McIntosh from Leithauser’s first band, The Recoys.

Steve Mason – The Greg Wilson & Derek Kaye Remixes 12”

Monkey Minds In the Devil’s Time is an album that has been shaped by the current global political climate and the lack of dissenting voices in music and popular culture in general.  The righteous, undaunted anger at the heart of the album has helped to create Mason’s best record to date. Now Steve Mason is releasing a special two-track 12” featuring remixes of ‘Seen It All Before’ and ‘Come to Me’ which both feature on last year’s Monkey Minds In the Devil’s Time. Remixes are courtesy of Greg Wilson and Derek Kaye.

Villagers – Occupy Your Mind 7”

Having won Ireland’s prestigious Meteor Choice Music Prize for their album {Awayland} last month, Villagers are set to release their new; James-Ford produced single ‘Occupy Your Mind’ on limited edition clear vinyl on Record Store Day. The 7” release will be backed by new track ‘Beatitudes’ exclusively for the occasion.

DOMINO KINDLY SEEK DONATIONS IN SUPPORT OF MIND & SHELTER FROM THE STORM [CLICK HERE TO DONATE]

SHELTER FROM THE STORM provide hot meals and a warm bed to homeless people in London.

INCREDIBLY Shelter from the Storm is London's ONLY free homeless shelter, open all year round and receive no help from the government. Totally independent, they are not affiliated with any other organisation and they depend on volunteers from the community. To survive they rely on generous donations so anything you give is used purely to keep offering our services to those who need them.

Sheila Scott (founder), started with one bed on one night in some church crypt in Islington and now provides shelter to 36 people every single night of the year (not in the church). The place is staffed entirely by volunteers with very low running costs meaning  that any money raised has the potential to reach the people it should. Along with providing shelter to many they give their users access to doctors and counsellors as well as helping  people back to work,  or back  to their homes. They do good work with much grace and donations of all sizes will see them continue doing just that.

Domino is running the Royal Parks half marathon on October 6th in order to raise money for two charities; Shelter from the Storm – London’s only FREE homeless shelter, and MIND the mental health charity.

We truly hope that you’ll consider sponsoring us.

You can find out more about both charities at our Virgin money giving page.

King Creosote has revealed the punch-line to the three EPs he released last year with a CD album, That Might Well Be It, Darling. It compiles all the songs from 2012’s vinyl series, and marks the CD debut of such tours de force as cosmic 80s  hoedown ‘Doubles Underneath’ and devastating prog-pop psalm ‘Ankle Shackles’ (all 11-plus, wine-glass droning minutes of it). The CD will be available through Domino Mart and participating independent stores for Record Store Day.

ROSE IN LONDON - THE LOVESTREET

COOL STUFF

We have been delighted at the number of new films being made within the fashion industry by creative directors brave enough to use some of the most cutting edge music. Not only is it about people wearing nice clothes but the films are becoming hugely visually pleasing like Metamorphosis by The North Circular.

I've finally got round to grabbing the embed code for this film that I want to share with you. It was a product of the fantastic, new, hugely relevant course being offered by the London College of Fashion - MA Fashion Media Production, which this month enjoyed its first class graduation with all students passing including three with distinction. Whilst it may seem unfair to single out one student from an entire year - recent MA_12 graduate Saskia Reis had her music request from Domino rejected last year but we kept in touch. And we're so happy she's still talking to us as we are now able to look upon her film output like a proud parent. This film, entirely created by her, is one of several in her pioneering street-style blog THE LOVESTREET that proves that fashion - on the street anyways - can still have soul.

We look forward to the output of MA_13 and congratulations to LCF for taking the brave step in creating this course and good luck to all the students participating. If you want to find out more about Saskia, LCF or have a chat about this - email me
