Microshift is the third album from Hookworms, due for release on February 2nd 2018 via Domino. With the announcement of Microshift, the band share new track, ‘Negative Space’ along with new music, Hookworms will return to the live circuit with dates in both 2017 and in 2018. Watch above.

Microshift is the Leeds band's first new work in over 3 years and marks a seismic shift in their sound, dynamic, songwriting and production, whilst still bearing all the ferocious energy, intricate musicianship and bruised but beautiful song-craft of the previous releases which have quietly made them one of the UK's most revered young bands.

The album is formed out of loops, modular synthesizer sequences, drum machines, homemade samples etc. which were jammed around and layered until the songs began to emerge. The band have also opened their writing to include collaborations with artists such as Richard Formby (on Opener), Christopher Duffin (on Boxing Day) and Alice Merida Richards (on Each Time We Pass).

L.A.Salami marks his return today with a brand new track, titled Terrorism (The Isis Crisis) with accompanying animated video aligned to the lyrical content of the song. Watch above.

L.A. Salami comments on the release with “I think the video and song are pretty self explanatory. If it’s not, well, key words to consider would be ‘irony’ , ‘hysteria’ and ‘consequence’.”

Last heard earlier this year with the release of his Lookman And The Bookmakers EP, he has been working on the follow-up to his well-received debut album, 2016’s Dancing With Bad Grammar. A somewhat prolific songwriter, he has also spent much of the past year touring with extensive live schedules both sides of the Atlantic attracting  plaudits from the likes of NPR, Brooklyn Vegan, Sunday Times & GQ along the way.

Protomartyr 'Don't Go To Anacita'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Protomartyr premiere a new video for their single ‘Don't Go To Anacita’ via The New Yorker. Watch the video directed by Yoonha Park above.

The song is one of the most anthemic the band have written, and is one of the highlights off their critically acclaimed new album, Relatives In Descent. Singer Joe Casey described the fictional town of Anacita in a recent interview with NPR Music. "From touring around America you get to see all sorts of municipalities," says Casey, "and I picture Anacita as an affluent suburb that looks quaint and respectable but maybe has too many cops for the population size. Like, maybe the next town over is a little more down-on-its-heel and the border between the two is stark in its sharpness."

The surreal video, inspired equally by obvious touchstone Stairway to Lenin’ by Zbigniew Rybzynski and R.E.M.'s ‘Imitation of Life,’ director, Yoonha Park, said "I wanted to make a visual that recreated the feeling of scanning over a large, densely populated image, like a Breughel painting or Where’s Waldo?. I wanted to convey a feeling of false progress and the idea that every new horror that meets us is part of a never-ending continuum. Joe Casey’s lyrics are chock full of references both contemporary and classical, often in the same song. It creates a really unique visual field that conveys the exact flavor of dread I find myself feeling a lot lately.”

Bons ‘Gras H'utsi’
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Bons (Kevin Cormack, Matthew Hunt and Mathew Fowler) announce their album ‘Gras H'utsi’ released by Spillage Fete Records on the 30th October 2017. Listen above.

Electro-acoustic hocus pocus and melancholic, digitally disrupted chamber-folk miniatures. Fowler and Cormack are behind some of our favourite underground sides of recent times, all released, like Gras H'utsi, through their own Spillage Fete private press. As with their duo project Jam Money, and Cormack's solo work as Harry Deerness, Bons is driven by a collagistic, ambient pop impulse which can be traced back through early 2000s British post-rock (Disco Inferno, Pram) to the 80s DIY pastoralia of Flaming Tunes, Leven Signs et al.

Fragments of rootsy, arcadian instrumentation - acoustic guitar, woodwind, violin, muted horn - sutured together with eerie synth sustains, hypnotic hand-drums, and a panoply of richly evocative, often disquieting samples (from the sound of jammed computer keys to lovelorn, Kevin Ayers-ish vocal refrains).

Franz Ferdinand 'Always Ascending'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Always Ascending’ is the new album from Franz Ferdinand, released by Domino Records on the 9th February 2018.  Nothing short of a rebirth, the album’s 10 songs are a triumphant recasting of the group, bursting with fresh ideas and vigorous sonic experimentation. Listen above.

Recorded at RAK Studios, London and Motorbass in Paris, with the help of French producer extraordinaire Philippe Zdar (Cassius, Phoenix, The Beastie Boys), the mutual affection between band and producer seeping into every dazzling groove. ‘Always Ascending’ shows Franz Ferdinand broadening their palate, as exuberant as it is euphoric, creating a sound that singer, Alex Kapranos, refers to as “simultaneously futuristic and naturalistic.”

From the city which jointly played host to the album’s conception, the band will mark the announcement of ‘Always Ascending’ with a live streamed launch event at Paris’s Point Ephémère, to be broadcast from the Franz Ferdinand Facebook page from 8.30pm BST tonight, Wednesday October 25, during which the band will preview a selection of their new recordings.

Spinning Coin 'Permo'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Ahead of the release of their debut album 'Permo' out 10th November via Geographic Music and upcoming headline tour, Glasgow’s Spinning Coin share their latest track, ‘Money Is A Drug’. Listen above.

Spinning Coin’s two songwriters - Sean Armstrong and Jack Mellin – oscillate taking centre stage on a song; Armstrong’s more melancholic melodies contrasting with Mellin’s urgent refrains. And the deceptively spry ‘Money Is A Drug’ is one of Mellin’s, its flecks of country-soul charm concealing lyrics calling out ‘class war’ and economic inequality.

Permo  was recorded with Edwyn Collins at his AED Studios, and at Green Door Studio (the recording centre for the new wave of Glasgow artists) with Stu Evans. It is an album of bold steps and simple gestures, coming from a group who have found, seemingly effortlessly, a confident, unpretentious and egalitarian way of working together.

Alex Lahey released her highly anticipated debut album 'I Love You Like A Brother' on the 6th October 2017 via Dead Oceans/Native Tongue Publishing. Watch the music video for 'I Haven't Been Taking Care of Myself' above.

The album found Lahey back in the studio with production partner, and one-half of Holy Holy, Oscar Dawson (Ali Barter, British India). The pair pushed each other to create an intimate sonic experience that comprises scuzzy guitars thrumming over pop melodies, helmed by Lahey’s unfussy but arresting vocals.

The themes of Alex Lahey’s album might be universal, but it’s the unique approach she takes unpacking them that’s earned her millions of Spotify streams, buzz-worthy showcases at SXSW alongside guesting on tours with Catfish & The Bottlemen, Tegan & Sara and Blondie. With the release of her debut album, Alex Lahey has announced an EU and US tour spanning across October to December this year. GEORGE FITZGERALD 'BURNS' OUT 16TH OCTOBER 2017 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
George Fitzgerald 'Burns'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Following a worldwide premiere as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1, George FitzGerald is pleased to mark his return with new track, ‘Burns’.

‘Burns’ is the first new music from FitzGerald since his 2015 debut album, Fading Love and is a nod towards his forthcoming second album, due to land in Spring 2018. On ‘Burns’ FitzGerald says: "The track started life as a kind of strange studio experiment making a beatless chant out of loads of contrasting vocal samples, and then morphed over time. It works as a moment on a dancefloor but at heart it's meant to be quite meditative".

After cutting his teeth as an international touring DJ, FitzGerald shifts his focus to the live sphere, proving himself to be a rare example of an artist capable of making the transition from DJ playing tracks for club consumption to composer of full length LPs and live musician. With FitzGerald at the helm alongside his band consisting of Mike Lesirge of Bonobo’s touring band plus drummer Guillaume Jambel, the debut live show takes place at London’s prestigious Hoxton Hall this November with another following in Amsterdam. In addition, FitzGerald and his band will support Bonobo on his final tour date of 2017 at Brighton Dome.
