PATRICK WATSON 'WAVE' OUT 18TH OCTOBER 2019 (DOMINO RECORDINGS)

Patrick Watson 'Wave'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Wave, the new album from Canadian artist Patrick Watson, arrives on October 18th via Domino (worldwide excluding Canada) / Secret City (Canada).  Wave is the follow-up to Watson’s 2015 album Love Songs for Robots. Alongside the album announcement today, Wave’s opening track “Dream for Dreaming” is now available, accompanied by a music video directed by Joël Vaudreuil. Watch above.

Talking about the new song, Watson says: “When you come home and your house doesn’t look like the one you left and the strange feeling of being so far from what you had in mind that your skin doesn’t fit anymore. And you’re in the state of disbelief with a strange smile wondering what am I to do now.”

Watson’s sixth studio album is about having a wave knock you over when you realize everything you have in life can be wiped away in a moment – and then learning how not to drown in the process. During the making of the album, Patrick lost his mother, his longtime drummer left the group, and he and his partner separated. Watson brought a notebook underneath the waves and composed tunes about melancholy. The songs are about how sometimes you have to sing a love song to yourself when no one else will, allowing the sound carry you and learning to trust where you will land. It is very personal and intimate, and it is the most humble of all his records.  Reflecting on events in his personal life, and having begun his singing career in the church choir; Watson notes about the album: “It’s the difference between singing a solo at a stranger’s grave as a child and singing one at your own mother’s funeral.”

Following the release of their new album A Bath Full Of Ecstasy in June, Hot Chip are pleased to share the ‘game-review’ video for “Bath Full Of Ecstasy”. Watch above.

The band say about the new video: “Oliver Payne (Safecrackers) is a British born, Los Angeles-based visual artist, video and film-maker, friend of the band, and collaborator. His artwork was used on two of Alexis’ album sleeves and he is also a huge supporter and fan of Hot Chip. Oliver came up with the idea to make a video based around a fictional computer game called ‘Bath Full of Ecstasy’, in the Hot Chip series, from Japan, circa 1988. The video consists of a Youtube-style review and demonstration of the game, which features each band member on their path to save the cursed kingdom, aiming to return melody and colour, and bringing back joy, with the help of the Bubblebath Fairy, a Microphone and some friendly strangers.”

ONE TRUE PAIRING 'DAWN AT THE FACTORY' OUT 3RD SEPTEMBER 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO ALL-IN
One True Pairing 'One True Pairing'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tom Fleming will release his debut solo album under the guise One True Pairing on September 20th. Having previously shared the title track, “One True Pairing”, and recent single “I’m Not Afraid”; today, Fleming unveils new single “Dawn At The Factory”. Over looming synths, Tom emphatically sings “Where the strip lights shine, I give you my life”. Listen above.

Talking about the song, he says: “2019’s satanic mills - zero hours, suicide nets, universal credit, cheap labour. The blue-white glow of the factories out on the gyratory and the plastic clad office blocks of the town centre. I wanted to strip the romance back and look at what makes this country run, what makes it tick. The factories are hungry and it’s you they want. I wanted it to sound like the open road but there’s just too much barbed wire around it. The same every night. You do what you have to do. Knackered synths and a Floyd rose. Hope you enjoy it, OTP 2019 x”.

One True Pairing is “the angry northern Springsteen record that I'd always wanted to make” says Tom Fleming, “it's neo-heartland rock". These "heartlands” are the moors above Bradford or Cumbernauld, "places where people live their whole lives and do these things and succeed and fail.” Within this there’s a continuation of the exploration of masculinity that made his former band so unique. As well as being deeply personal, OTP has a wider political resonance, he believes that class is entirely discounted from the current conversation about inclusivity and privilege. In its 11 songs of discordant guitar and aggressive synth Fleming channels his discontent with Britain in 2019 and a “feeling of directionless rage and cheatedness which hasn't gone away."

Iglooghost is Seamus Malliagh, an electronic music producer and visual artist based in Margate, UK. He tells the stories of various creatures (tiny gods, witches, worms and eyeballs) in an imaginary eco-system called Mamu through intense, dizzying, maximalist electronic dance music. Collaborating with fellow Domino Publishing writer BABii and 3D animator Christopher Casey Denton, the Clear Tamei music video is the first introduction to his fantastical world. Watch above.

Iglooghost signed to Brainfeeder as a teenager releasing his first EP ‘Chinese Nu Year’ which was followed by the inventive and colourful debut LP ‘Neo Wax Bloom’. After a string of single releases, remixes for ABRA and Slugabed, mixes for Boiler room, Rinse FM and Radio 1 Diplo and Friends he released the double EP ‘Steel Mogu’/‘Clear Tamei’ (dark, bass heavy, hyperspeed / brighter, more melodic, classic instrumentation)

He has composed the score for the animated Adult Swim short ‘The Jungle’ aired in 2017. Created 'Grid' alongside BABii and Kai Whiston, 'Grid' is an interactive night of DJ sets centred around a machine that unlocks new and exclusive visuals/tracks through the use of hidden tokens. In addition, he has formed the GLOO collective (Iglooghost, BABii, Kai Whiston) who graced the front cover of Loud and Quiet and will be releasing their album 'XYZ' on the 18th September 2019. Over 9 tracks 'XYZ' mixes the individual members tastes, practices and styles explored in their respective solo material. Joining forces they have created a vibrant and unpredictable record of left field electronic music with nods to experimental club, dance and pop.

L.A. SALAMI ‘L.A. SALAMI’S WALKABOUT EP’ OUT 27TH SEPTEMBER 2019 (DOMINO PUBLISHING)

DOMINO PUBLISHING
L.A. Salami ‘L.A. Salami's Walkabout EP’
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

L.A. Salami pushes his elegantly haunted poetry to the foreground with his new EP ‘L.A. Salami’s Walkbout’, which will be released on September 27th via Sunday Best. The release has been launched with its lead track ‘Tinder’. Set to a bluesy backing loop, the track ruminates on the nature of Tinder and the wider world of dating apps. Listen above.

His evocative, poetic lyrics span everything from grand existential questions to vignettes of everyday life as well as the affairs and anxieties of modern Britain. Set in “some nameless generic megacity”, the seven-track EP focuses on the experiences of Papalious Stokely. Equipped with little more than a pocket-sized bottle of brandy for company and comfort, Papalious Stokely explores the dirty extremes of this tired metropolis: a sprawling sea of cheap hookers, cocaine habits, whisky bottles, knife violence, jacked up hack ideologies, street gangs and inspirational hooligans.

Echoing the distant spirit of Jack Kerouac reciting conscious poetry to the rhythm and colour of the jazz bands of the era, this is a walk through L.A. Salami’s own subconscious stream with Butcher Pete (better known as Petter Grevelious from Francobollo) providing the beats. Papa Stokely wrote half of the EP, while his disconcerting doppelganger L.A. Salami crafted the rest.

Lava La Rue takes to the streets of West London with new single 'TLSL'. The track is the cut from her upcoming mixtape EP 'Stitches' released on the 18th September. The video for 'TLSL' was shot and edited by Lava and close friend Daniela Montiero over the course of two days. Watch above.

I literally just told my girl Dani that imma invite our friends to chill for the weekend and she just captured what we were up to, because she’s part of our circle it was like a perfect fly on the wall perspective."

"I mean, a lot of the people in the video didn’t even know we were making a music video till after its that candid…overall I feel like the whole song and video simply reflects on what I’ve been up to this summer between all the hustles/shows and my feelings to just keep going with a positive mindset despite any losses…hence the title: Take an L, Smoke an L (TLSL)..."

BLUE HAWAII 'OPEN REDUCTION INTERNAL FIXATION' OUT 11TH OCTOBER 2019 (DOMINO PUBLISHING)

DOMINO PUBLISHING
Blue Hawaii 'Open Reduction Internal Fixation'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Blue Hawaii return with their fourth studio album 'Open Reduction Internal Fixation' out 11th October via Arbutus Records, to mark the announcement they have released the track 'All That Blue', watch above.

Spanning genres as diverse as trance, acoustic, UK garage, trip-hop and house, its core elements are lighthearted and groovy. But oddly, “Open Reduction Internal Fixation” was born out of unfortunate circumstance. The duo were scheduled to tour through Southeast Asia & Japan in Autumn ’18 but plans changed suddenly when Agor smashed up his heel in Germany. Instead of the tour, he came back to Montreal for treatment - hence the title - “Open Reduction Internal Fixation”, the foot surgery he received.

Ra was going through her own challenges at this time, being on the heel end of a messy breakup - the kind where you almost get married and spend your life together only to find everything torched to ashes. Much like the surgery, that emotional rollercoaster also left her feeling torn open and fixated. The remedy: hit the club and make a record that makes you scream in joy at the speakers. Agor and Ra connected during their recovery periods, and through their different pains the tunes came together naturally, a healing through fun and friendship. Tied together with signature diva vocals, dreamy tones and liquid beats, “Open Reduction Internal Fixation” is the living proof of turning a bummer situation into a golden opportunity.

Blue Hawaii is a two person electronic project consisting of Ra and Ag, who met doing parties and shows in Montreal and continue to create together despite living in separate cities - split between Montreal and Berlin. “Open Reduction Internal Fixation” is their fourth LP and continues the thread of dreamy electronic pop and dance floor playability.

LOWER DENS 'GALAPAGOS' OUT 20TH AUGUST 2019 (DOMINO ALL-IN)

DOMINO PUBLISHING
Lower Dens 'Galapagos'
GET: MP3 | WAV | LICENSE

Four years since their critically acclaimed album, Escape From Evil, Lower Dens recently announced their newest creation -- The Competition -- which will be released on Ribbon Music on September 6th.  Lower Dens share a third taste of the album in the form of a glistening, synth-pop careen called “Galapagos.” Listen above.

Lower Dens also recently announced they will be hitting the road upon the album’s release supporting Of Monsters And Men in addition to three very special release shows in Los Angeles and Baltimore respectively.  All dates are below.

The Competition is a pop album with a concept both emotionally and politically urgent. By design, competition is the driving force of modern capitalism, and the title is lead singer and songwriter Jana Hunter’s (pronouns: they/them, him/his) term for a socio-psychological phenomenon this generates, a kind of psychosis that accelerates our insecurities and anxieties to the point of total overload, corroding our intimacies, our communities, and our senses of self.

Hunter says, “The issues that have shaped my life, for better or for worse, have to do with coming from a family and a culture that totally bought into this competitive mindset.  I was wild and in a lot of pain as a kid; home life was very bleak, and pop songs were a guaranteed escape to a mental space where beauty, wonder, and love were possible.  I wanted to write songs that might have the potential to do that.”

Indeed, The Competition might be Hunter’s most vulnerable, hook-filled album yet, a leftfield, resistance pop record that could only be released in 2019.
