Mara Carlyle's mesmerising sound combines an eclectic range of musical influences, including choral music, jazz, bluegrass, electronica & R&B. This unique and innovative approach to songwriting has seen her dubbed ‘’the Missy Elliot of the classical world’’ and has won her a legion of influential admirers, from Bjork, to Elbow’s Guy Garvey, to David Byrne. So varied is her musical world that recently she has simultaneously given a private performance to the British Royal Family (Prince William & Kate Middleton) played musical saw for legendary rapper MF DOOM and recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Mara’s critically lauded debut, The Lovely, made at home between shifts at the hospitals and hostels where she worked, brought her to the attention of the major labels and she recorded her dazzling follow-up, 'Floreat', for EMI, produced by Dan Carey. Unfortunately, its completion in 2008 coincided with the label’s takeover by Terra Firma, and the ensuing chaos & legal wrangling meant that Floreat seemed destined never to see the light of day. Thankfully, the use of her song ‘Pianni’ in the famous IKEA ‘Cats’ commercial sparked something of a rebirth, bringing her beautiful music to a much wider audience & enabling her to release Floreat (meaning ‘let it flourish’), to universal critical acclaim. Most recently Mara featured on the Joe Goddard track 'She Burns' (she also starred as a corpse in the video..)
