Felix is the musical collaboration between classically trained pianist and cellist Lucinda Chua (who has also played in Stars Of The Lid) and guitarist Chris Summerlin (of Lords, Wolves Of Greece and Kogumaza). An unlikely collaboration on paper, the two began making music in 2004 and have developed a subtle and intuitive way of working together to create a sparse, beautiful (and often sinister) take on chamber pop music.
Lyrically, Felix songs often concern themselves with the minutae of storytelling but yet somehow carry with them a weight that belies the minimalist way they are constructed and the intimacy of Chua\'s voice.
Instrumentation is always kept to the bare essentials, with flourishes surprising and delighting the listener. Whilst both musicians have their roots in leftfield and avant garde music, Felix songs are always pop songs no matter how strange the construction or unsettling the subject matter.
It\'s this balance between dark and light and experimentation and accessibility that makes the band so hard to categorise and so unique.
Following a split 7" with Chris Herbert on the ambient label Low Point, the band released their first album entitled You Are The One I Pick (joined by drummer Elvis Beetham) in November 2009 on the splendid Kranky label from Chicago.
